Still more additions to the Superhero Edition of Dear Inner Demons! Thank you to everyone who voted on the poll I posted on the Dear Inner Demons Facebook Page. The choice was overwhelmingly Wonder Woman! Which was great because I had been wanting to do this comic for awhile.
Oh, bonus points if you can guess who the villain I have Woman Woman pitted against is, in today’s comic.
SPEAKING of villains and Wonder Woman, THIS LIST is a real GEM, haha:
The image beside #4 in the list kills me, hahaha, oh my.
In all seriousness though, I think it’s a bit of a shame that there couldn’t have been better writing to support her character. The early work featuring Wonder Woman is so much different than more recent work.
I have very vague memories of Lynda Carter’s Wonder Woman portrayal on the TV show, but it must have been reruns if I saw it on TV because the original aired in 1975-1978. Here she is in her costume:
Diana is a strong person who is filled with conflict, which is what makes her interesting. Whereas Superman is able to suppress his anger (or not feel it) largely, Diana really struggles with her temper and patience sometimes. I like that. Flaws can make characters more real and more interesting.
I really became a fan of Wonder Woman largely based on the depictions by Alex Ross, namely, Kingdom Come and Justice. If you haven’t had a chance to read those graphic novels, I highly recommend them. Here is a page from Kingdom Come:
The art is just insane that Alex Ross does, but the stories are also really incredible and show sides of these superheros you aren’t used to seeing.
Having said all that I am pretty skeptical of the Gal Gadot portrayal in the upcoming Batman v Superman movie. We all know full well that Lucy Lawless was born to play Wonder Woman! (SIDENOTE: She actually VOICES Wonder Woman in some of the animated works) However i guess she might be a smidge too old now to play her in live action? But imagine if they made a movie of Kingdom Come! She’d be perfect as a more mature Wonder Woman!
